          This course is designed for students to learn and use the technical basics of play production (costume, lighting, makeup, scenery, sound) with the acting basics/house management to perform fall play and spring variety show.  The class will read classical and modern plays to prepare for the variety show skits/plays.  Students will also be learning the 14 forms of individual speech competitions as well as the group speech (performance in the round).  Speech competition could occur at the regional, sectional, and state level.  Each student will be required to be in the variety show as well as perform speeches either at the competition or in the class.

          This course emphasizes the use of 21st century skills such as collaboration, familiarity with information technology, data collection and interpretation, and generation and organization of information.  Students will use these skills to create video projects that will air on the in-house news and entertainment program, Buff TV.  Projects will be recorded, edited, and presented as final products.  Projects will include instructional segments, demonstrations, music videos, and interviews.

          This course will teach basic study skills including: time management, organization, note taking, test taking and other skills that will improve classroom performance in all areas.  Students will receive adaptive instruction in the areas of academic deficiency as identified in their Individual Education Program (IEP).

          This course will teach anger management skills.  You will be shown how to act and react in different social situations.  Emotions will be dealt with in a positive way.  We will work on positive self-image.
