                 Students in this course will discuss the aspects of:

     1.  Physical Science that include energy, sound, light, and electricity.

     2.  Chemistry that includes matter and substances.

     3.  Biology that includes human systems and ecological systems.

     4.  Geology that includes Earth structure and interactions.

 

                Students will have hands-on activities and lab exercises throughout the year.


Biology I

                This is an introductory level class that deals with the various aspects of living things. It is a laboratory-oriented class involving the methods and technology of science. Freshmen must score appropriately in their 8th Grade Science class to be able to take this class.
 



Biology II

                The course expands coverage of environmental study and focuses on taxonomy of plants and animals, etc. It includes dissections and anatomical comparisons and mammalian physiology as well as microbiology.

 

Biological Science Applications in Agriculture (BSAA)

                This course is designed for students to reinforce and extend student’s knowledge of science applications and principals.  Students will examine major phase of growth and management of agriculture products through the use of numerous laboratory experiments and exercises.  Students will maintain a Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and may participate in agricultural science activities of the FFA.

                This course focuses on histological study; fetal pig dissection, enzyme study, molecular genetics, cancer theory, as well as providing for student-designed projects.

 


Chemistry I

                This is a basic course in chemistry but college prep is the purpose. It is highly recommended for anyone considering science or science-related majors. Included are mole concepts, writing and balancing equations, gas laws, pH and titration.  All measurements are metric quantities.

                This is an advanced chemistry class which emphasizes organic chemistry chemical equilibrium, radioactivity, thermodynamics, and qualitative analysis.

                Planning for this class is in the early stages but would use the book From Earth to the Universe.  This course would require night observations on occasion including possible weekends.

 

Field Biology

                This course involved working in the Kulbartz Nature Preserve.  It includes monitoring plant and animal populations in the prairie and woods habitats.  Classroom work includes forestry, herbarium, and museum practices.

                This class includes the study of energy, motion, acceleration, machines, and their interactions.  Waves, light, and sound follow and the final topics include electricity, magnetism, and alternate energy sources.  All topics include mathematics-based labs.
