Georgetown-Ridge Farm Home Based Remote Learning Plan
Our goal is to provide the best academic program and experience, while ensuring the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff. Despite the many unknowns that lie ahead, we are optimistic that we can meet these objectives, even if it takes some new methods and new approaches.
The GRF COVID-19 Task Force met regularly throughout the summer and developed a comprehensive plan. The Committee consisted of staff, teachers, administrators, and retired ROE Superintendent, Cheryl Reifsteck. The plan is based on current guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education.
Regardless of the methods needed to engage students over the course of the year, we will hold fast to our mission and provide a program that is challenging, inclusive, and engaging. We will continue to keep our students at the very heart of all we do and we are steadfast in our resolve to develop children and young adults with the skills and sensibilities to be bold, lifelong learners.
What We Need You to Do
Registering your students for the 2020-2021 school year is of great importance. Registration will be August 3 - 7 (8:00 AM - 1:00 PM). To maintain social distancing, registration will take place in the school that your child will attend.
What will the 2020-2021 School Year look like?
Previously enrolled PreK students should register at Pine Crest Elementary, August 3rd through August 7th from 8:00am-1:00pm. We will not be enrolling new students in the PreK program for the beginning of the school year. If your student qualifies for special education and/or speech services please contact the Pine Crest office for more information.
A Comprehensive Home-Based Learning Program
Our technology team has ensured that we have the resources and platforms we need to support our program well. Students in Pre-K - 3rd grade will be using Seesaw as a learning platform. Students in 4th - 12th grades will be using Google Classroom. 3rd grade students will transition to Google Classroom by the end of the school year. Our home-based learning program will enable our students to continue learning and growing in all areas. We have gained an abundance of knowledge through our spring semester and multiple parent surveys that helped us make adjustments to our plan.
Academic expectations for home-based learning will be held to the same standards of face-to-face on campus instruction including attendance, assessments, work completion, participation and engagement.
Students will be required to sign in daily and be engaged in the lessons.
All student work will be graded in the same manner as face-to-face instruction.
All assignments are to be completed by deadlines.
Students that do not meet these expectations will have consequences that may include failing a class.
Parents will be notified by the school if their students are not attending classes / signing in on a daily basis or completing assignments.
Staff will be at school throughout the normal school day for instruction and support.
Parents will be able to contact the school during regular school hours to speak with their student’s teachers, unless they are conducting a live online class or uploading lessons.
Friday, August 21 - First day of classes for students. Google classroom invitations will be sent to students prior to the 21st for grades 5-12 via their gobuffaloes.org email accounts. Pine Crest will contact families with more information for Pre-K-4 students.
Tuesday, September 15 - District officials will reassess the status of the pandemic and determine which plan GRF will utilize for the remainder of the 9 week
Friday, October 9 - End of the first 9 weeks
Devices for all students (K-12) have been ordered. Once devices arrive, families will be notified with the process of picking them up. More information on acceptable use, and rights and responsibilities of students for the use of Chromebooks will be distributed at a later time. Families will have the option of renting the devices or purchasing them (see details below). Those without the internet will be able to access the school’s wifi in the parking lots of the buildings. The district is also working with internet providers to increase hotspot locations for families.
As a means to provide equal access to all students at Georgetown-Ridge Farm Community Unit School District #4, Chromebooks will be provided to parents for student use who participate in and complete all required activities, (orientation, form signatures).
Families that choose to purchase will pay an annual Chromebook fee each year for the period of three years at registration and at the end of year three own the chromebook.
The Chromebook fee in 2020-21 is $65 per student; however, for families with more than one student the Chromebook fee is $100 per year regardless of the number of students.
Families may choose an option to rent a Chromebook, the rental fee in 2020-21 is $25 per student.
