The federal Digital Equity (DE) program and Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program may allocate over $1B in funding to Illinois to accelerate high-speed internet access statewide and ultimately help close the digital divide. In preparation for this, the Illinois Office of Broadband, in partnership with the University of Illinois System, recently launched a series of local coordination efforts to gather input on broadband-related needs and priorities from a range of stakeholders. The State will be hosting in-person listening sessions for residents, nonprofits, and local organizations in Danville on April 13. The Illinois Office of Broadband will also host small group meetings with government stakeholders before the public sessions to better understand the broadband needs, priorities and experiences of local governments agencies, including schools. Please see the details below. Upcoming event: Listening sessions for residents, local organizations, and nonprofits Thursday, April 13th , 5:30-6:30 pm at Danville Area Community College Vermilion Hall - Room 306 2000 East Main Street RSVP at https://danville-session.eventbrite.com Please RSVP to Abby Ottenhoff at abby@ao-strategies.com if you plan to participate. How you can help: 1. Attend a listening session to share feedback on your experiences, barriers faced, needs and aspirations with broadband. Please feel free to include district leaders or relevant key staff. 2. Spread the word and urge residents or community organizations to join the resident or non-profit sessions. We’ve attached a digital flier that you can forward to the communities you serve or share on your social media channels! 3. Reach out to illinoisbroadbandlab@ullinois.edu with any questions or requests for assistance. Thank you!
