We are having a sock drive October 24th-30th for SOCKtober. Students can bring in new socks to be donated to a local shelter. The grade level with the most socks brought in will get ice cream at lunch. They can bring them in to their 2nd block teacher. Please help MMJH donate.

Friday, October 27, 2023, will be “It’s All in the Jeans Day” at GRHS. Let’s come together to support those who have been affected by this ugly disease. Please give your $5.oo donation to Mrs. Graham or Mrs. Hackler. If you have a pink shirt, please wear it on the 27th.
The NHS is also supporting “Hats Against Breast Cancer” on the 27th. Students are invited to give a donation to Breast Cancer to be able to wear a hat. Students will be given an “All in the Jeans Day” sticker to show they are participating.
March for Marva will also be held on the morning of the 27th. The GRHS family (staff and students) will walk a lap around the track in honor of Marva Moore. Marva, a special education and co-teacher at GRHS, fought hard in her battle against breast cancer. Our lap is to honor her and our loved ones who have fought against this terrible disease. Everyone please meet at the front doors of the high school around 7:45 am on Friday the 27th.

I am delighted to announce that this week marks the beginning of Red Ribbon Week in the gym. Red Ribbon Week is an opportunity for people of all ages to unite and take a stand against drug use.
This year, we're encouraging everyone to show their support by wearing the official Red Ribbon Week theme color: RED. By doing so, we can all play a role in creating a safer and healthier community. Red Ribbon Week will run from October 23 to October 31, 2023. I am also asking for students wear a sports jersey or camo on Friday. The class with the most participation will receive a prize.

Costume Parade reminder for Pine Crest!
Dear Parents,
Thank you for participating in the E-Learning today. We were able to orient new teachers and students to the E-Learning platform as well as refresh all staff and students on Google Classroom and Seesaw platforms. We received valuable feedback from families on technology glitches and our Technology Department is working to mitigate any problems. I appreciate your support as we prepare for future E-Learning Days due to inclement weather.

On Saturday, three members of the GRHS Chess Team went to Mattoon High School to compete in the Trahan Chess Tournament against nine other schools from east and central Illinois. Franklin Sullivan, Legend Hughes, and Cole Turner participated in the open tournament where they were competing for individual medals. Legend Hughes brought back the 5th place medal and Franklin Sullivan brought back the 2nd place medal! This was their first tournament and they all did a great job!
Two Quarter Tuesday at Pine Crest tomorrow!
Starting October 24th through November 6th, students will be selling raffle tickets for the Pine Crest PTO Fall Cash Raffle. Tickets will be $1 each. The drawing will take place on November 8th.
Senior Night is this Thursday evening vs. Momence. Kickoff is at 7pm!

Any boys, and guardians of boys, interested in playing basketball and are in 6th or 7th grade should attend a meeting on Mon., Oct. 16 at 1pm at MMJH in the cafeteria to meet the new coach and turn in physicals, concussion forms, and sports fees. All three items must be taken care of before athletes may participate in practices. Practice for the 6/7th grade team will be from 4-5:30PM at MMJH beginning Wed., Oct. 18-Fri., Oct. 20. Further information will be coming that week. We look forward to seeing you there!
This afternoon we had our first House Challenge of this school year. Students did a bean bag challenge and did amazing! We would like to congratulate NOBILIS on their win!!

Delta Dental joined Pine Crest this morning for a special assembly on oral health. All the kids had a great time and the presentation was very informative.
Mrs. Crowl's third grade students are learning about different layers of the ocean in our Reading lessons. This week they are working on an Ocean Research project with a partner for reading. They are researching plants and ocean animals that are in the different layers of the ocean.
This Saturday's Football Game is our Cancer Awareness Game! Please wear your pink in support! Kickoff is at 1pm!
